George Dannatt Trust gives grant to Southampton City Art Gallery
Funds will go towards the conservation of the city’s sculpture collection
Southampton City Council have received a very generous grant of £32,000 from the George Dannatt Trust towards the conservation of its sculpture collection. This is following the donation of an important collection of paintings, prints, drawings and sculptures to the city’s collection, which have previously been showcased in an exhibition at Southampton City Art Gallery in 2015.
The city’s sculptures form an important part of the Designated Collection, recognised by Arts Council England of being of national significance. With nearly 100 sculptures in the collection, this new funding will enable vital conservation work to be carried out which had been previously identified in a recent survey.
This grant will result in a project taking place over 3 years, co-ordinated by Rebecca Moisan, the city’s Fine Art conservator, and carried out by conservators from the prestigious firm SculpCons Ltd. It will also include training for conservation assistant Ben Hall, who will support the project.
