George Dannatt Trust Supports Pallant House Gallery Library
The George Dannatt Trust have funded a three year part-time Librarian post as part of the development of the Art Reference Library and Reading Room at Pallant House Gallery.
Pallant House Gallery has an Art Reference Library and Reading Room which is particularly strong in its representation of Modern British Art of the 20th Century. In addition to the library holdings of over 16,000 specialist books, catalogues and periodicals, the library provides a complementary resource of study materials to the art collections in the form of information files containing ephemera and minor publications that relate to the Gallery’s core subjects. Archives containing material on artists, collectors and artworks relevant to Pallant House Gallery are available to researchers, students, volunteers and members of the public to increase understanding and engagement with the Gallery’s art collections.
The library at Pallant House Gallery is for reference only and the main collection is managed on a ‘closed-stack’ system, whereby members of the public do not have direct access to browse the library shelves, but may request items for study which are retrieved from the book stacks by library staff. Open access reference material, selected magazines and Pallant House Gallery publications are displayed in the reading room area shelves. The part-time Librarian will work closely with the Collections Manager to manage, organise and disseminate available information ensuring the development of the Library Collection as an accessible resource.
